Frequently Asked Questions
Ensure you're future ready
What is the lifetime of a battery?
Typically battery will last for 10 to 15 years depending on how often it is cycled, meaning how many times it is charged and discharged.
How much does it cost?
Battery prices vary widely between brands as do their capabilities. More standard options include modular systems that can be expanded over time or more premium brands which have increased functionality and monitoring. This is where it pays to have bespoke design.
What is the typical payback time?
Payback time for battery is slightly longer than solar panels, around 6-10 years.
Is battery right for my home?
Batteries are ideal if you’re not home during the day, as they store excess solar instead of exporting it unused. That said, even households occupied during the day can benefit from a smaller battery, as it removes the need to perfectly match solar generation with real-time usage.
How do I size my battery?
Determining the correct size for your battery can be challenging to predict, it will be based on how much energy you consume and time of use. If you are considering battery it's worth taking regular meter readings. This combined with the solar generation estimates we can model your homes battery requirements.
Can I add battery to an existing solar PV system?
Yes, adding battery to an existing system can be done in 2 ways. Replace the existing inverter with a hybrid inverter known as DC coupled which allows the battery to charge directly from the solar panels. The other option is AC coupled where you keep the current inverter and add a separate inverter charger. The battery connects on the AC side and works alongside the existing system.
